Natural gas from the Eagle Ford Shale was key in landing a $10 billion plastics plant that will be built just north of Corpus Christi, where it is expected to be a game changer for the South Texas economy.

ExxonMobil Chemical Co. and Saudi Basic Industries Corp., known as SABIC, announced April 19 they officially selected a site in San Patricio County to build a plant that will make ethylene and other chemicals used to make polyester, anti-freeze, plastic bottles and food packaging products.
