After 26 years, the Houston Open has shed its shell.
Shell Oil Co. has been the namesake sponsor of Houston’s PGA event since 1992, but announced in June it would stop sponsoring the tournament as part of a shift in its sponsorship strategy. The move left the Houston Golf Association — the organization in charge of the event — tasked with finding a new sponsor.
